چکیده

Context. The ROSAT X-ray source 1RXS J141256.0+792204 has recently been identified as a likely compact object whose properties suggest it could be a very nearby radio millisecond pulsar at d = 80 − 260 pc. Aims. We investigated this hypothesis by searching for radio pulsations using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope. Methods. We observed 1RXS J141256.0+792204 at 385 and 1380 MHz, recording at high time and frequency resolution in order to maintain sensitivity to millisecond pulsations. These data were searched both for dispersed single pulses and using Fourier techniques sensitive to constant and orbitally modulated periodicities. Results. No radio pulsations were detected in these observations, resulting in pulsed radio luminosity limits of Lmax 400 ≈ 0.3(d/250pc)2 mJy kpc2 and Lmax 1400 ≈ 0.03(d/250pc) 2 mJy kpc2 at 400 and 1400 MHz respectively. Conclusions. The lack of detectable radio pulsations from 1RXS J141256.0+792204 brings into question its identification as a nearby radio pulsar, though, because the pulsar could be beamed away from us, this hypothesis cannot be strictly ruled out.

Discovery of X - ray emission from the young radio pulsar PSR J 1357 − 6429

We present the first X-ray detection of the very young pulsar PSR J1357−6429 (characteristic age of 7.3 kyr) using data from the XMM-Newton and Chandra satellites. We found that the spectrum is well described by a power-law plus blackbody model, with photon index Γ = 1.4 and blackbody temperature kBT = 160 eV. For the estimated distance of 2.5 kpc, this corresponds to a 2–10 keV luminosity of ∼...

Radio Observations of Two Isolated Neutron Stars , RX J 0720 . 4 – 3125 and RX J 0806 . 4 – 4132

Radio observations of two isolated neutron stars, RX J0720.4–3125 and RX J0806.4– 4132, have been made with the Australia Telescope Compact Array at a frequency of 1.4 GHz. No continuum emission is detected from either object with a 3-σ upper limit of 0.2 mJy. The data were also folded synchronously with the known rotation periods of 8.4 and 11.4 s respectively. No pulsed emission was detected....

Upper Limits on Radio Emission from the Young X-ray Pulsars in the Supernova Remnants G11.2−0.3 and N157b

Using the Parkes radio telescope, we have searched for pulsed radio emission from the recently discovered X-ray pulsars AX J1811.5−1926 and PSR J0537−6910 in the supernova remnants G11.2−0.3 and N157B, respectively. We detected no significant pulsed radio emission from these pulsars and have set an upper limit of 0.07 mJy on the 1374 MHz flux from AX J1811.5−1926 and upper limits of 0.18 mJy an...

Cosmological evolution of compact AGN at 15 GHz

Aims. We study the uniformity of the distribution of compact flat-spectrum AGN on the sky and the evolution of their relativistic jets with cosmic epoch. Methods. A complete sample of compact extragalactic radio sources at 15 GHz was recently compiled to conduct the MOJAVE program. The MOJAVE sample comprises 133 radio-loud flat-spectrum AGN with compact relativistic outflows detected at parsec...

Discovery of an Isolated Compact Object at High Galactic Latitude

We report discovery of Calvera, a compact object at high Galactic latitude. We initially identified Calvera as a ROSAT All-Sky Survey Bright Source Catalog X-ray source, 1RXS J141256.0+792204, statistically likely to possess a high X-ray to optical flux ratio. Further observations using Swift, GeminiNorth, and the Chandra X-ray Observatory refined the source position and confirmed the absence o...
